LevelsEdit

Toxic II plays exactly the same as the original Toxic. The only difference is that some levels have secret levels for the player to unlock, unlocked by finding a blue teleporter.

IntroductionEdit

A blue laser moves over Toxic. He says: "I thought it was all over when I destroyed the factory..." Toxic puts on his yellow suit. "But I emerged to a world where the machines had taken over". Toxic puts on gloves. "I must find out what is controlling the machines". Toxic then puts on his helmet. "It's time to scrap some metal!" Toxic then teleports.

1.0 - Hacking the System Edit

In the very beginning, the player must plant a bomb on the computer for it to open the gate so they can advance. This level introduces spikes, the computer person, and walking robot enemies. It is also the first level in which the player has to blow up a wall. This level can also be completed very quickly, by climbing the wall by the side.

2.0 - Aerosol Edit

The level starts with wall jumping up a wall while avoiding a hovering robot, then jumping, then sliding down a wall and then the carefully walking through eleven hovering robots. The player has to slide down another wall, then jump and land on the ground. The player now has jump on platforms surrounded by hovering robots, then walk through more hovering robots to get to the exit.

3.0 - Laser Phaser Edit

The level starts off with walking on a conveyor belt with three spinning lasers above, then dropping down and going on another belt. Fortunately, this conveyor belt has metal that protects the player from the above lasers.

Be wary of careful of running here, as the player can be hit by a laser. The player should jump down on a conveyor belt, then jump to the one on the right, and stay under the metal until the lasers pass, then dash to the red pad.

4.0 - Digg it Edit

The player has a new bomb, the digger bomb. Plant it near the wall to destroy it, then run across the platforms to a big wall. The player should plant a bomb upon meeting this, then run to the end of the room and place another bomb. They should now slide down the wall and upon impacting the ground jump from platform-to-platform, being wary of the below acid.

The wall the player comes to should be wall jumped up, upon the player reaching the top they should place a bomb the highest they can. They should now run through the tunnel and place another bomb, and drop down and place another bomb as high as they can and then run through the tunnel.

5.0 - Steady Platform Edit

This level starts off with running and avoiding the lasers, jumping over some green liquid then wall jumping up a wall. upon reaching the top, the player has to jump from platform-to-platform above the lasers, then jump over a wall that has a laser above it. The player will then discover a ledge bomb, three that must be used to get to a ledge.

The player must get to another platform using a ledge bomb, and to another one, then wall jump to an edge. The player has to jump to another platform and place a ledge bomb to shield them from a laser. They must now dash to the teleporter.

6.0 - Arachnophobia Edit

The player starts with dropping down, then running past a spider robot, then another one, and then two. At the end of the hallway is a wall, wall jump up it whilst avoiding the falling acid. Upon reaching the top of the section, jump on some disappearing platforms whilst avoiding the spider robot.

then when you are at the top jump on some disappearing platforms avoiding the spider, walk some more and grab some ledge bombs, avoid the spider again and, use the bombs to get to the top to the transporter.

Blue Transporter: While at the bottom of the vertical hallway with dripping liquid, bomb the wall to the right and go through the passage. The transporter is on the ledge.

7.0 - The High and Lows Edit

The player should get a ledge bomb, then use it to get up to the ledge near the Left. After obtaining the basic bomb, the player should destroy the three walking robots, then use the basic bomb to destroy the rock until the player can get through it.

The player should obtain a ledge bomb then go through the hold, drop the ledge bomb, and move to the left and drop another. The player should now try to acrobatically get to the bomb spawner on the left then blow up the rock using the ledge bomb. After that, the player should obtain more ledge bombs, then jump down the hole and drop a ledge bomb, then drop onto the little bit of rock on the left that is stable.

The player should now jump onto the metal that features an arrow underneath, then go to the left and drop aledge bomb, then jump and drop another ledge bomb, then repeat this operation until it is possible to get to the red teleporter.

8.0 - Take Cover Edit

Jump to the metal platform when the laser is on the right side of the above metal platform, repeat this until the player gets to the red teleporter.

9.0 - Ready Aim Fire Edit

Run and jump on the conveyor belts, until the player gets to the computer person. Destroy the bomb shooting robot, drop a bomb near the red button, then run on the pink platform until you reach the end, where you should jump onto a ledge. Jump upwards until the bomb shooting robot sees Toxic, then it will shoot a bomb up, it will land near the bomb shooting robot, and blow it up.

Jump onto the conveyor belt, destroy the robot, then the second robot, then stand where the second robot was, and drop a bomb on the conveyor belt. As soon as the pink platform arrives, jump on it until the conveyor belt above you is reached. The player should now duck, then jump onto the pipe and stay in it, drop a bomb, and leap onto the pin platforms when they are activated.

The player should now jump onto the pipes, drop down, duck, then drop a bomb on the Pink Button, and when the number on the bomb reaches one, jump to the right and wall jump up the pink platform. When the above conveyor belt is reached, duck to get under the pipe, then jump to avoid the spikes. Repeat this again, then when the bomb shooting robot is in sight, make yourself visible to it, so that it will shoot a bomb on the pink button, and activate it, Now, jump on the pink platform blocks until the red transporter has been reached.

10.0 - Bigfoot Edit

When the player arrives in bigfoot's battle room, the entrance and exit to the room will be closed. Bigfoot will jump around, and while it is doing this, the player should place bombs in places Bigfoot might jump on. When Bigfoot is damaged enough, it will jump up, then come down on top of of the player, with the player between its legs. Bigfoot will move its legs slowly, so try to keep up with its legs. Within some time of doing this, bigfoot will make a mega jump up, and jump around, or trap the player again between its legs.

At a certain time, bigfoot will come and stay the middle of the room, and shoot green balls which will slide on the floor. Run and jump (to avoid the acid) and drop bombs near bigfoot, until it blows up. A entrance will open on the right when bigfoot is destroyed, run through it to the red transporter. Also near the end there is a secret path being blocked by stone. If this is blown up the player will see a walking robot and a lot of canisters.

11.0 - Wheel Deal Edit

The player should go to the left or right, but stay on their platform, then drop a bomb from the platform, until the wheel robot is destroyed. Now drop onto the platform, then go to the part of the platform where the player can drop a bomb on the below wheel robots. Get to the part of the platform, then drop the bomb. When the robots are destroyed, drop down, and destroy the rock below Toxic, then stay on a part of the rock, and destroy the robots below.

It is suggested the player blow up a part of the rock below, (not where they are standing) but not all of it, just a bit, so when the wheel robots come, they will get stuck in the bit the player blew up, making the robots easy to destroy. Where the player is standing (after the robot is destroyed), they should drop a bomb to activate the red button, then drop down the holes and run into the pink platform, until it disappears (the player shouldn't fear the laser, it can't harm them at that time).

After the pink blocks collapse, the player should drop bombs to blow up the below wheel robot. The player should now drop down, and destroy the right wall (the other one leads to acid) destroy it, then destroy the right floor. There are wheel robots below, so go onto one of the ledges, and drop bombs down until the robots are destroyed. Now drop down and go to the red transporter.

12.0 - Ankle Biters Edit

First, run all the way down, avoiding the acid and maggot bots. Then wall jump up avoiding the maggot bots again. Destroy the maggot bot hive and continue right, and then down. Drop bombs until the pathway is clear (or to save time, walk all the way through and collect the health). Now bomb the red switch, and avoid the maggot bots. Wall jump and go right for the exit.

13.0 - Loose Ground Edit

In this level, the player should start out going left and up. They should now go right and onto the platform. Destroy the cannon robot, and proceed up again. Now grab the ledge bombs and head upwards. The exit is right there.

  • Spider robots - This robot will come down, go up, and come down. It is held up by a laser so when the player destroys it, laser will come down.
  • Wheel robot - This robot will roll back and fourth.
  • Shark robots - This enemy appears in few levels and jumps out of the acid. It is able to blow up but if only the bomb is on the edge and it blows up when the robot is near it.
  • Exploding robot - This robot will flash red when Toxic gets close to it, and the robot will explode.
  • Fly robot - This robot appears in level 6.1 and will fly towards Toxic.
  • Charging robot - This robot has a wheel underneath it and when it sees Toxic, it will dash towards him.
  • Hive robot - This robot spawns tiny walking robots.
  • Maggot bot - This small robot is spawned by the hive robot.
  • Bomb shooting robot - This robot shoots Basic Bombs and can be blown up. It will also shoot basic bombs when Toxic gets close.
  • Cannon robot stand - This robot is a Cannon that shoots green balls constantly on the same line. Sometimes the player has to duck to avoid the Green Balls.
  • Digging robots - When Toxic runs underneath this robot, it will dig downwards. When it hits metal, it will blow up. It is shaped like a triangle.
  • Acid shooting mine - They appear in both Toxic games. They shoot acid balls, hurting Toxic on contact.

Bosses Edit

Bigfoot Edit

Main article: Bigfoot

This boss appears on level 10.0. Its main attack is jumping around the chamber, and its secondary attack is spitting out green acid balls. It jumps around trying to land on Toxic, then after sustaining an amount of damage, it will jump up high and land back down, and the player will be between its legs. It will make small movements with his legs then jump up again, and will continue doing this until his health is at a certain level, then it will land on the ground and shoot Green Balls, the balls sliding on the floor.

Mother Edit

Main Article: Mother

She appears on level 20.0. Her attacks are moving a green laser around the room, making debris fall, and shooting five rockets that will go through platforms. She is the final boss, and the computer brain of the factory. Toxic must place bombs on either side of Mother until he reaches the center, which he can damage to drain health. Mother detonates after Toxic destroys her.

Hazards Edit

  • Spikes - These will hurt the player if he walks or jumps into them.
  • Lasers - These hazards will some times spin, or move on a bar.
  • Acid - This is located at bottom of every level and will kill the player if they touches it, unless it is flowing from a pipe, in which case it will only hurt the player.
  • Leaking pipe - These pipes are small and will sometimes drip acid droplets that will hurt the player.
  • Pipes - These are larger pipes in which acid constantly flows out of it, that will hurt the player.
  • Bomb blasters - These hazards will blow up the player's bombs when the blaster's little gun sees the bomb.

Platforms Edit

  • Stone platform - The most common type of platform. Stone can be blown up by any explosions, but is not harmed by acid.
  • Metal platform - This platform similar to stone, except that it cannot be blown up.
  • Light blue metal platform - This is a platform that looks exactly the same as metal, but it is a little bit bluer in color than normal metal. It is disguised as metal, but it can be blown up and usually hides secrets.
  • Disappearing platform - Small, singular platforms that disintegrate when they are walked upon. They do not respawn.
  • Red switch box - A block with a single red eye in it. When the eye is touched by an explosion, it will go off for a short period of time, causing holographic platforms to appear. When the light turns back on, the platforms disappear.
  • Red grid - Red energy grids are giant red grids in the background. When it is touched by an explosion, material will appear where the explosion blast was.
  • Conveyor belt - They are conveyor belts that run in one direction. Toxic can still run in the opposite direction, but he will go slower, slowly picking up speed.

Pick Ups Edit

  • Samples - When the player picks one up, they get 500 points. When the player revisits one level, the samples that the player has already picked up will appear faded. They appear to have acid in them.
  • Health case - Replenishes 1/4 of the player's health and is marked by a white cross. It appears quite often in the game.
  • Bomb spawners - Bomb spawners spawn one type of bomb, but throughout the game will spawn different types of bombs. These spawners will never run out of bombs.

Bombs Edit

  • Basic bomb - These are the simplest bombs that the player starts out with in every level. This bomb blows up after five seconds, causing a normal explosion.
  • Digger bomb - This bomb will stick to the first surface it touches, and cause a series of explosions in that direction.
  • Ledge bomb - This bomb is actually a platform that will float in the air and can be stood upon. They can be used to reach higher places, and will detonate after a longer period of time than normal bombs.
  • Runner bomb - This is a small, robotic bomb that copies the player movements, except that it always moves forward. The player can denote this bomb whenever they want to.

TriviaEdit

  • The release of date of Toxic II was pushed back several times.[citation needed]
  • Toxic II is the only game with Metroid references. Mother is a reference to Mother Brain, and Toxic is a reference to Samus Aran. The planet Toxic is on also is probably based on Zebes.
    • Although Mother is likely based of Mother Brain, Mother's nature of trying to thwart the player is very similar to GLaDOS from the Portal series. Furthermore, both bosses when fought (the first time) are completely stationary.
    • The method of secrets being hid behind invisible or imitation walls is also probably a reference to the Metroid series.
  • There is a glitch where if the player hits the space bar very rapidly over and over or holds down the space bar with basic bombs, there will be hundreds of bombs in the line of the player's movement, if any.
  • Many of the secret levels are reference to other media.
  • Lee Nicklen originally composed five tracks for Toxic II in July 2008, although they were not used for unknown reasons.[1]
  • Nitrome made a button for the 1.5 version of their site that was based on Toxic II, but it wasn't included in the 2.0 version.
  • Toxic II is the only Nitrome game to use Roman numerals in its name. Furthermore, it is the only Nitrome game to be acknowledged with Roman numerals, and the only game to use them.
