Rush has a total of thirty levels. The levels are divided up into sections: 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc, with each section having ten levels. There are also two modes: racing and elimination. Only levels unlocked in race mode can be played in elimination.
Race Mode can be played with up to four players, but to unlock levels, the levels must be completed by playing in either one or two player mode with either player coming in first.
In Eliminator Mode, the last player still alive is the winner. Each time a runner completes a lap, they damage the other players. Levels cannot be unlocked in Eliminator Mode.

There are two kinds of interactive objects: speed ups and lightning bolts. Speed ups are three green arrows in a row, and they give a temporary speed boost. The lightning bolts do damage to all of the other runners and restore some of the player's health.
Although not said anywhere in the game, Rush possibly takes place in the same place that Flipside took place at.[citation needed]
Rush is the third game to feature play for up to four players, the others being Mallet Mania and Go Go UFO. With the release of Nitrome Touchy, however, many more games are being made with four player mode.
