Ladders are interactive objects in the game Flightless. They are attached to platforms and are climbable, allowing the ducks to climb them in order to reach further platforms, and vary to normal and magical.
Normal ladders consists on two wooden beams with smaller wooden beams between those, with a small spacing between each other. They are brown in colour, and have a wooden texture.
Wooden ladders are located on the levels generally between two platforms. Those can't be placed by the player, neither can kill enemies or collect coins.
Magic ladders consists on two wooden beams with smaller wooden beams between those, with a small spacing between each other. The ladders that can be placed by player one are blue, while the ones that can be placed by player two are green in colour.
Magic ladders can be placed by pressingfor player one, and E for player two, if no manual changes in the controls were made. It's possible to place ladders downways in wooden platforms by pressing the ladder key along with ↓ for player one and S for player two. If another ladder by the same player is placed, the old one will disappear. Magic ladders, when placed will quickly move upwards (or downwards) to the closest platform in the position it's moving in, guaranteeing some special features.
If the ladder hits an enemy while moving, it will instantly kill the enemy, if this happens with a gem, the ladder will collect the gem which will be added to the player's score. If placed on a button it will activate it, and if is placed downwards and there is a box in the way, the box will be destroyed.
- One of the sound effects used when the duck fires a magic ladder is extremely similar to a sound a fireball makes when shot from an imp in the game Doom.
