For Nitrome.com 2.0, Nitrome made several of their popular games available to be placed and played on websites and blogs free of charge, and also to be downloaded. Using two HTML codes, the full game can be placed on a site allowing the site's viewers to play the game. The first code is the loader code, which is the box which loads the game and allows play, while the second is the code that has to be placed between the <body> and </body> parts of the CSS of the website/blog.
Nitrome allowed these games to be used for promotional purposes. Distributable games are different from licensing a game, because licensing a game costs money, whereas distributable games are free. The page for distributable games went live on August 25th, 2011, the same day Nitrome.com 2.0 went live. At the time, 12 games were available to be distributed.
The distributable games can be accessed by scrolling down to the bottom of the page, and finding a little bar that runs all the way across it. The fourth button to the left is the distributable games.
Two different ways of adding the games were available to site owners. The code could simply be copied, or downloaded as a .zip file.
List of distributable games
Most distributable games are free to play here on the Nitrome Wiki.
On November 1st, 2012, the Flightless demo became the first distributable demo made by Nitrome, which was also silently released as a distributable game.
When Nitrome Must Die was released as a distributable game, due to an error in the HTML code, the game would not load, and instead take the player to the current version of Nitrome.com, only it had a broken skin.
