In case you don't keep up with the latest Wikia news on Community Central, two new features are slowly making their way towards our wiki. One is the new Wikia header aka "Global Navigation", which is already active on a number of major wikis. Right now, beta testing is over, so the only place you will be able to check it out is at Community Central. It's a bit like the new DeviantART header imo, but a little on the tall side. Wikia is well aware that height is an issue amongst the wiki community. After making the changes, we can expect the global navigation to change completely, so a big heads up to that. You can read more about the new navigation header here.
Secondly, Wikia has been toying around with a new design for image…Read more >
Wikia just released Wikia Maps today, which is an available extension for wikis to enable. It allows users to upload an image and place pins on it, so that they can visually point out key locations and items, etc.
I decided to try it out for myself on Nitrome Pixel Love Wiki, since I can see it being very helpful for the Metroidvania features. I didn't have a particularly good map on me though, so I just used a map some users created for Pivot. It started out confusing to use, but once I toyed around with it a bit, the process seemed simpler.
I was thinking that Nitrome Wiki would find use for maps, particularly in the Flightless Demo, where we can make a large visual map of all the rooms and pinpoint gems. That way, users can clic…Read more >
Looks like Jam games are starting to be released on Nitrome.com, so I think it is a good time to start making the pages. I've created a quick layout and infobox to hopefully make the process a bit easier and quicker. If a change needs to be applied to all Jam pages, I suggest editing the layout template to make it easier for yourself and other users who will be making Jam articles.
- All pages that have something to do with the Jam, like components of a Jam game, developers who aren't part of Nitrome (not sure if we want pages on the developers though) need to go in the Jam namespace.
- Hiding the Jam namespace when creating internal links can quickly be done with the pipe trick. Utilise it.
- All components can use the normal layout for…
This was a little project I was planning to undertake myself, but I'm working on a complete reformation of a wiki that desperately needs it (bet you can guess what that is...). If you're looking for something to edit or help out with this wiki, feel free to help. I'm not going to make this a formal project though I won't stop anyone who wants to do so. It's also a note to myself to start doing it again once I'm satisfied with the way CS Wiki looks.
The premise of this personal project is to clean up what's left over from the (basically) finished Project:Rename. There are a number of redirects created as a result of this that I don't think need to be there anymore, for several reasons:
- Search results are not case sensitive
- In the case the target…
New Visual Editor now available in Labs!
As part of the fluid layout upgrade, Wikia will be switching their visual editor to a new look that will be fully functional and with additional features some time in the future. It looks like the article you edit appears exactly the way you want it to look in the editor without having to use a preview button.
Rest assured that Source mode will not be going away and that those users who do use Source mode will not be affected by this change. But for those that do use Visual Editor, would you like to try out this new feature? (You can also try it out on Community Test Wiki if you want.)
Eventually, once the new Visual editor is fully developed, the older one will be deprecated. We can activate it on Nit…Read more >
I've made some changes to Template:Disambig that (hopefully) improves its functionality. I also implemented this on Nitrome Pixel Love Wiki before doing it here. I've been testing out a few changes on the Pixel Love Wiki to see if they might help Nitrome Wiki in the long run.
- Changed text from "below" to "above", since our disambiguation pages put the template at the bottom of the page.
- Adjusted the link for searching so that it autosearches the page name according to the disambiguation. It brings up a list of search results regardless of whether you have Go search enabled or not, and puts the pagename title in the search field. This works as long as (disambiguation) isn't part of the title, and for those that aren't, well, maybe I'…

Anonymous Editing Disabled
- Since 1 July 2013, it is now necessary for all editors and blog commenters on Nitrome Wiki and its sister wikis(Fan Fiction Wiki and Pixel Love Wiki) to have a valid Wikia account.
- This is because of changes in US legislation which prohibits US-hosted websites from collecting certain information from children including IP addresses. Nitrome Wiki is hosted on US servers.
- Unfortunately, IP addresses is the means through which our software MediaWiki tracks anonymous contributions, hence, anonymous contributions are disabled.

Welcome to another RSK blog post, based on the principle of "The Three Ps". What could they possibly stand for?
Preloads are now available on the wiki editor whenever you create a new page! To see how this works, visit Special:CreatePage and open up the editor to a random, nonexistant page title. There, in blue links, are the preloads!
So how do preloads work, exactly? Well, clicking on a link that matches the type of page you're creating inserts the necessary headings, templates and other information needed to create the page. Saves time from having to copy an infobox by hand, eh?
Of course, you may not need all the headings inserted. You may even need additional headings. That's completely fine. They're only meant as a quick-start guideline …

A forum thread regarding embedding of personal videos on Nitrome Wiki came to a close this morning. In a week's time, all videos "uploaded" using the video embed tool that are only for use on user pages, talk pages, blog posts and the like will be deleted from the Wiki.
For those certain admins who are jumpy and can't wait to start this mass deletion of personal videos (I know, I'm one of them!), I've placed a countdown timer on the community messages notice, which precisely counts down to a time when videos may be deleted. Users will be given a week to remove the video codes from pages or replace them with the same code from YouTube extension. Using the YouTube extension shouldn't be too complex; you'll still be able to resize videos, alig…Read more >
Most of you are already aware of the new Nitrome Fanfiction Wiki that was recently set up to accomodate for the astonishing number of fanart that has been in existence on this Wiki for a long time, some that even went unnoticed since their upload. As you begin to transfer fanart to the Fanfiction Wiki, I thought I'd fill you in with some news about the fanart that is currently on this Wiki.
I have spent most of the last two days scrolling through Special:NewFiles and deleting anything that is a personal image or fanart. There were also some duplicate files and unused images that went along with it as well. The characteristics of whether an image qualified for deletion or not pretty much came down to where the image was being used. If it was…Read more >
